The Annual Appraisal Task has five steps. The table below shows each step and details of the workflow. Annual appraisals should NOT be completed if the employee has not been assigned any goals for the performance cycle.
Launching the Performance Appraisal Task
Launch the task from the Carolina Talent email or directly within Carolina Talent’s Homepage ‘Pending Performance Document Task’ section.
To launch the task, click on the task name.
A maximum of seven task display in the ‘Pending Performance Document Task’ section. To view the complete list, go to the Performance Documents page.
[Annual Appraisal] Employee Self-Assessment Step
The self-assessment is optional. This step is assigned to eligible employees on March 15, and it expires on March 31 at 11:59pm.
Section 1: Overview
This section provides specific details for the task as well as the ‘Review Step Progression’.
Click Get Started to begin.
Section 2: Employee Self-Assessment
Use the comment box to add your self-assessment. This is an opportunity for you, as an employee, to reflect on your performance, accomplishments, strengths, areas for improvement, and overall contribution to the organization.
If you are NOT ready to submit your self-assessment to your manager and need more time to finish, click Save & Exit.
If you are ready to submit your self-assessment to your manager, click Submit.
You can make any edits to your self-assessment without submitting a help desk ticket before March 31, 20xx at 11:59pm.
If you do make changes, you need to Save as Draft for the system to keep your updated changes.
Self-assessments in Draft will be released to your manager after March 31, 20XX at 11:59pm, even if you have not clicked the submit button.
Go to Performance → Performance Documents → My Assigned Reviews to make any changes to submitted self-assessments before March 31,20XX at 11:59pm.
[Annual Appraisal] Manager Review Step
Section 1: Overview
This section provides specific details for the task as well as the ‘Review Step Progression’.
Click Get Started to begin.
Section 2: Review Employee Self-Assessment
Employees are not required to complete their self-assessment.
Managers should read the self-assessment first and then move on to the next sections.
Section 3: Institutional Goals Rating
Each institutional goal is weighted equally, there are five institutional goals for non-supervisors. Supervisors have six institutional goals.
To rate the institutional goals, expand the select menu and choose the appropriate rating.

Finally, rate the Supervision institutional goal accordingly.
If the employee is NOT a supervisor, select Supervisory Goal N/A.
If the employee is a supervisor, select the appropriate rating.
Learn more about each institutional goal.
Click Save and Continue.
The "Supervisory Goal N/A" rating should only be used for the Supervision goal if the employee is not a supervisor of at least one permanent employee. Supervision of temporary or student employees is not applicable. That rating should not be used for any other institutional goal.
Section 4: Individual Goals Rating
If the employee doesn’t have the required 3 to 5 individual goals in this section, DO NOT CONTINUE. Go to Performance → Goals → CREATE. Visit /wiki/spaces/CTTEST/pages/38502969 for help.

Each individual goal will require a rating. Expand the menu to choose the applicable ratings.

Use the help icon if you need more details on the rating scale and description.
Use the comments box to add additional context supporting the goal rating.
Click Save and Continue.
SHRA goals will show the Weight
EHRA goals do not have Weight
Section 5: Manager Review - EHRA NF Annual Overall Rating and Comments
EHRA non-faculty employees require a manual selection of the overall rating.
Managers: Enter overall comments for this performance cycle. If the rating is “Not Meeting Expectations” consult with the employee’s second level manager.
Click Save and Continue.

Enter overall comments for this performance cycle. If the rating is “Not Meeting Expectations” please consult with the employee’s second level manager.
Click Save and Continue.
Section 6: Manager Review: Summary
Finally review the Summary section to ensure the Institutional and Indvidual Goals Ratings are accurately entered.
If you need to make any changes to the previous sections, click on the section title on the left.
If you are NOT ready to submit the appraisal and need more time to finish, click Save & Exit.
If you are ready to submit the appraisal for HR checkpoint, click Submit.
Managers can make updates on the manager review step without submitting a help desk ticket before April 30-11:59pm. If you do make changes, you need to click the submit button again or else the system will keep your previous submittal.
[Annual Appraisal] HR Checkpoint Step
HR Checkpoint runs from May 1-20. PM Representatives from your department will review appraisals using the HR checkpoint checklist and reach out to managers for any edits required.
[Annual Appraisal] Manager Sign & Release Step
The final Manager Sign & Release step will be assigned to managers on May 21. Managers have until June 3 to sign and release the appraisals to employees.
To release the appraisal to your employee, check the acknowledgement, click the Sign button, enter any additional comments and Submit.
Once submitted, the employee will be able to view the full appraisal.
[Annual Appraisal] Employee Acknowledgement Step
After your manager signs the appraisal, you will receive the Employee Acknowledgment step. You have 15 days to acknowledge your appraisal.
Review your appraisal, if you have any questions regarding your manager’s comments please talk to your manager or HR representative.
Finally, click the Sign bottom.
Click Submit to complete the task.
This will complete the task. If the acknowledgment is not completed within 15 days, the task will complete automatically. This appraisal will be available in your performance document Snapshot.
