SHRA Employee Competency Assessment (ECA)


Managers will be assigned the SHRA Employee Competency Assessment (ECA) and a notification email will be sent automatically from Carolina Talent.

  • Managers can launch the task from the Carolina Talent email or directly within Carolina Talent’s Homepage ‘Pending Performance Document Task’ menu.

  • To launch the task, click on the Performance Document Task name.


[Employee Competency Assessment] Manager Step

Section 1: Overview

The first step is the Overview section - this section provides specific details for the task as well as the ‘Review Step Progression’.

  • Click Get Started to begin.

Section 2: Competency Assessment

  • Enter the ratings for each competency. Use the SHRA Competency Profiles link for reference while completing the competency assessment and search by the position.

  • Click Save and Continue.

If a full competency assessment was previously entered into Carolina Talent, the last rating for each competency may display for reference.

Section 3: Competency Assessment Rating

  • Enter the overall competency rating.

Section 4: Competency Development Plan

  • If the employee has any competencies with a rating of Developing, this section can be used to create a new development plan.

  • Click Save and Continue.

To create a new development plan, click on Add Objective in the upper right part of this section. Each objective must have at least one training or free-form action step. This development plan will be assigned to the employee after the employee acknowledgement step is completed.

Section 6: Signatures - Manager and Employee

  1. To download a copy of the full document, click the Options button in the upper right corner, then click Print Review.

  2. Sign below and click Submit to complete the task.

Please note that your electronic signature below only indicates that you have received this documentation. Your signature does not necessarily imply agreement with the contents. If you choose, you may write additional comments below.

[Employee Competency Assessment] Employee Step

The employee acknowledgment step is optional. After your manager signs your review, you will receive the Employee Acknowledgment step. You have 15 days to acknowledge your review.

  1. Review your managers comments, if you have any questions regarding your manager’s comments please talk to your manager or HR representative.

  2. Finally, click the Sign bottom.

  3. Click Submit to complete the task.

This will complete the task. If the acknowledgment is not completed within 15 days, the task will complete automatically. This appraisal will be available in your performance document Snapshot.
